Temporary Activity Visa Subclass 408

 

Overview

This temporary visa allows you to come to Australia to do specific types of work on a short-term, temporary basis. There are five different visa streams, which are the Australian Government Endorsed Events, Special Program, Religious Work, Research Activities and Invited for Other Social and Cultural Activity (Invited Participant). 

 

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

1. Australian Government Endorsed Events

  • You must have a letter of endorsement from an approved organisation.
  • You must have the financial capacity to support yourself and any dependent family members who come with you.
  • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
  • You must have adequate health insurance.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.
  • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

*COVID-19 Pandemic Event Eligibility Criteria as follows:

  • You must be in Australia.
  • You must have evidence of your employment or an offer of employment.
  • You hold a substantive visa with work rights that expires in 90 days or less, or that expired 28 days ago or less.
  • If you arrive in Australia on or after 21 February 2022, you must hold a substantive visa with work rights to be eligible for a COVID-19 Pandemic event visa, unless you have a job offer from a Commonwealth funded aged care service.
  • You must have enough money to support yourself and any dependent family members with you in Australia.
  • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
  • You must have adequate health insurance.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.

 

2. Special Program

  • You must be the right age for the special program you apply for.
  • You must have an invitation to participate in an approved special program, such as cultural enrichment or community benefit programs, youth exchange programs, school language assistance programs and school-to-school interchange programs.
  • You must be in Australia for cultural exchange.
  • You must have a supporter or sponsor.
  • You must have the financial capacity to support yourself and any dependent family members who come with you.
  • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
  • You must have adequate health insurance.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.
  • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

     

    3. Religious Work

    • You must have an agreement to work full time for a religious institution in Australia.
    • You must have a supporter or sponsor.
    • You must have the appropriate experience and qualifications to do the religious work that is set out in your agreement.
    • You must have the financial capacity to support yourself and any dependent family members who come with you.
    • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
    • You must have adequate health insurance.
    • You must meet the health and character requirements.
    • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

     

    4. Research Activities

    • You must be invited to observe or take part in research at an Australian research or tertiary institution.
    • You must have a supporter or sponsor.
    • You must be an established academic researcher, research student or recent gradute.
    • You must have the financial capacity to support yourself and any dependent family members who come with you.
    • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
    • You must have adequate health insurance.
    • You must meet the health and character requirements.
    • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

     

    5. Invited for Other Social and Cultural Activity (Invited Participant)

    • You must have been invited to take part in a community-based event in Australia.
    • You must have a supporter or sponsor.
    • You must have the financial capacity to support yourself and any dependent family members who come with you.
    • You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
    • You must have adequate health insurance.
    • You must meet the health and character requirements.
    • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.
