Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485

Overview

This is a temporary visa that allows international students to live, study and work in Australia temporarily after graduation. There are four different visa streams: Post-Vocational Education Work Stream, Post-Higher Education Work Stream, and Second Post-Higher Education Work Stream.

Basic Eligibility requirements

1. Vocational Education Work Stream

  • You must be 35 years of age or under when you apply. You can be under 50 years of age when you apply if you hold a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport.
  • You must be in Australia to lodge a valid visa application.
  • You must hold a substantive visa, a bridging visa A or a bridging visa B.
  • You must hold or have held a student visa in the last 6 months.
  • You must satisfy the Australian Study requirement within the last 6 months.
  • You must have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skilled List (MLTSSL).
  • You must have a positive skills assessment from the relevant skills assessment authority for your nominated occupation.
  • You must provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply.
  • You must provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply.
  • Your English ability must equivalent to overall scores of at IELTS band 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 for the four components.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.

2. Post-Higher Education Work Stream

  • You must be 35 years of age or under when you apply. You can be under 50 years of age when you apply if you hold a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport.
  • You must be in Australia to lodge a valid visa application.
  • You must hold a substantive visa, a bridging visa A or a bridging visa B.
  • You must hold or have held a student visa in the last 6 months.
  • You must satisfy the Australian Study requirement within the last 6 months.
  • You must have completed a CRICOS-registered Bachelor Degree, Bachelor (Honours) Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master by Coursework Degree, Master by Research Degree, Masters (Extended) Degree or a Doctoral Degree within the past six months. 
  • You must provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply.
  • You must provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply.
  • Your English ability must equivalent to overall scores of at IELTS band 6.5 with a minimum score 5.5 for the four components.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.

3. Second Post-Higher Education Work Stream

  • You must be 35 years of age or under when you apply. You can be under 50 years of age when you apply if you hold a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport.
  • You must be in Australia to lodge a valid visa application.
  • You must hold a Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Study Work Stream or Post-Higher Education Stream , or were granted a Temporary Graduate visa in the Replacement stream based on holding your first Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Study Work stream.
  • You must have obtained your qualification that led to the grant of your first Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Higher Education Work or Post-Study Work stream from an Australian education provider who is registered on CRICOS and offers degree-level programs.The campus that you studied at must have been based in a designated regional area.
  • As the holder of a Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work, or Replacement stream, you must have lived only in a designated regional area for at least 2 years immediately before applying for the Second Post-Higher Education Work stream visa.
  • You must have evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply.
  • You must meet the health and character requirements.
