Temporary Skill Shortage Visa Subclass 482

 

Overview

This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they cannot find a suitably skilled Australian to fill. There are three different visa streams, which are the Short-term Stream, Medium-term Stream and Labour Agreement Stream.

 

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

Please note that the eligibility requirements are for visa applicants only. The criteria for the Standard Business Sponsor and Nomination are not included in the following requirements.

1. Short-term Stream

• You must be nominated by an Australian Standard Business Sponsor to work in an occupation on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).
• You must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
• You must have a positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation that was assessed by a relevant assessing authority, if this is required for your occupation.
• Your English ability must be equivalent to at least IELTS band 5 with a score of at least 4.5 in each of the test component, unless exemptions apply.
• You must have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
• You must have sufficient health insurance arrangements. 
• You must meet the health and character requirements.
• You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

 

2. Medium-term Stream

• You must be nominated by an Australian Standard Business Sponsor to work in an occupation on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL).
• You must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
• You must have a positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation that was assessed by a relevant assessing authority, if this is required for your occupation.
• Your English ability must be equivalent to at least IELTS band 5 for the four components, unless exemptions apply. 
• You must have sufficient health insurance arrangements. 
• You must meet the health and character requirements.
• You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.

 

3. Labour Agreement Stream

• ​​​​​​​​​​​You must be nominated to work in a specified occupation under the terms of a Labour Agreement.
• You must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field.
• You must have a positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation that was assessed by a relevant assessing authority, if this is required for your occupation.
• You must have English language skills suitable to perform your nominated occupation. 
• You must have sufficient health insurance arrangements. 
• You must meet the health and character requirements.
• You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa.
